Columbus, Ohio’s J. Rawls and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s J. Sands are pioneers in the midwest independent Hip Hop movement that also included Hi-Tek, Main Flow and MHz. Together as Lone Catalysts, the duo released three cult-followed albums on their own B.U.K.A. Entertainment.
Today, The Lone Catalysts will release their first group album in five years, Back To School. The album released digitally early last month, but comes to CD today. According to the album’s press release, “J. Sands and J. Rawls, both members of Kappa Alpha Psi and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternities incorporated respectively, give a no holds barred account of pledging, academia, athletics, parties and relationships.”
The work features MOOD, as well as Rashad and DJ Kool.
In addition to Lone Catalysts, J. Rawls has produced for Black Star and El Da Sensei.
