“Freeway” Ricky Ross isn’t the only high profile criminal that Carol City rapper Rick Ross has angered. In a recent interview with the NY Daily News, mob boss John Gotti’s grandson Carmine Agnello railed against Ross for using Gotti’s nickname “Teflon Don” as the title of his latest LP.
“My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname,” said Agnello. “That was my grandfather’s life.”
Agnello, who has a music career of his under the name Carmine Gotti, says that Ross should have asked the family’s permission to use Gotti’s infamous name.
“He should have asked for permission,” he explained. “A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname.’ I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records …He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself…Only in America can you go from being a corrections officer to calling yourself Teflon Don.”
