Philadelphia crooner and member of the Soulquarians collective Bilal is preparing for the September 14 release of his secodn official studio album Airtight’s Revenge on Plug Research Music. Blending the boundaries between jazz, hip-hop and blues, Airtight’s Revenge finds the Grammy-naminated singer analyzing everything from love to politics to even his personal life.

“It’s a mix of jazz, hip-hop, soul, blues, and experimental free music,” he said. “Of all religions, I drive to be human. At the end of the day, we are all one. We need to connect with the spiritual side of ourselves; we don’t need to inflict that on others. It’s OK to have free thought.”

The album is set to feature production from the likes of 88-Keys, Nottz, Tone Whitefield and Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra fame. This release marks his first commercial release since 2001’s 1st Born Second, not including his 2006 album Love For Sale, which was indefinitely shelved by Interscope after rampant bootlegging.
