As always, when people read these interviews, they believe you are raking in the money and living large while interviewing these artist. Well nothing can be further from the truth, while interviewing the current Nexx School artist we started out in a little bar in the heart of Harlem, moved out into the streets and finished of with a tour of his world: Harlem USA.

The attributes of his name, is as simple and complex as that, just an artist the Poetical Pandemonium. Once performng in concerts with other live instrument bands, The Roots and The Fugees, as a member of The Kemelions (former BMG artist), this Harlem Knight moved out to Central Islip Long Island, and seven years ago re-rooted his skills back into the Harlem music scene. As well, stated by PoePan, “Living in Central Islip it different, the air is better, it was my training ground. You know it was a relatively small area, everyone knew about everyone.” From his current promotions manager, Aj Woodson (JVC Force) former rivals, EPMD, De-La-Soul, Craig Mack, Keith Murray, Busta-Rhymes, spitting (oh I am sorry, Rapping) in basements, backyards, street corners, PoePan has put down approximately 15yrs in the game.

Rhythm: How or when did you get started into the game?

PoePan: My uncle was a jazz musician in Harlem. He took me to the Cotton Club and Apollo so I met people. In Junior High School I got the opportunity to be on Jazzy Jay and Bambaataa Label Strong City, when they recorded the album “Jazzy Jay Cold Chillin’ in the Studio.”

By this time we hit 7th Avenue and 125th Street, PoePan hit me with an exclusive to some songs he says may or may not be there by album time.

Thuggs Resume“, a cool street appealing track that uncovers PoePan’s rugged side as he states, “this one’s to let people know that every Black-man in America has to play the part of a Kemelion, when I am down on Wall-Street I have to talk their talk, but when I am around the way I have to be able to walk my walk.” The current single, a-side “One of a Kind“, is a Ode to hip hop especially Flash and Cowboy, a couple of the people he likes listening to, with the hook swinging Run-DMC. The b-side “Nikki 20/20” is a take off from Princes Darling Nikki, with a twist of Rakim’s “Mahogany“, it details a married man’s temptation, of course it’s in 2nd person’s view and Poepan’s wife wrote the chorus. “Black Experience” is very well laid out spoken word composition that Poe intends on having on the album. There is not much for me to expose about this artist, he has a track record that speaks for itself, you can research that, and below you will find a couple of links for you convenience to taste his flava. Lastly I hit Poe with the final question, about the current project.

R: What aspect of doing this gives you the most pleasure?

P: Every aspect gives you different pleasures…My nut comes from the conception of the lyrics, whether kats get it or not, the ultimate high is when you spit it live…the only thing that compares to it is sex…
