Former HipHopDX Features Editor Andre Grant said in his “Defense Of The Struggle Rapper” editorial, “Out of all the things the Hip Hop web has vilified, the “struggle rapper” might be the least deserving of all that ridicule.” Before Kendrick Lamar became big enough for Barack Obama to sing his praises or Drake found himself making deals with Apple, they were artists without a significantly large fanbase attempting what seemed like the impossible. Hitting the top of the charts became a distant goal to making past one hundred streams of a song possibly made within the confines of their bedroom walls and gaining likes, re-post or anything else that would reach someone. Providing a weekly outlet for those getting their feet wet in the sometimes brutal sport of Hip Hop, allow us to give readers a look into tomorrow’s possibilities through “Up NeXt.”
Chi-Town Representer Says Micheal Jackson’s “Thriller” Changed His Life
Inspiration For Career
“I view my art as making me more than a rapper. But, if anything, just music in general, has been a part of me forever. So, the fact that I can connect with the world like my favorite artists has done is a feat of its own. Probably one of the biggest inspirations musically is Micheal Jackson. It sounds cliche. The first music video I ever saw was “Thriller” when I was four years old. It seems like that moment always replays in my head. I actually just recorded my upcoming single in the same studio he used to record at, Paramount Studios. Shit was crazy. Also, my right-hand man L10 is the reason yall love Chance The Rapper so much.”

Having A Shot At Stardom
“I know I do. You can’t deny good music as bad as people try to. I never fell to much in the market area because I just make what sounds great and allow my personality to just really show that’s how i got this far in life so I just want my music to resonate the same way ya know. Not only that but just everyone I’ve worked with, close hands with industry top engineers and even producers, but it’s all about authenticity with me. I like everything clear water and pure. That allows me to be the crazy music critic that I am.”
