2013 was a breakout year for the Bay Area representer and HBK member Sage The Gemini. Not only did Sage manage to drop the IamSu assisted “Gas Pedal,” he followed up with “Red Nose.” He was two for two and solidified as one of the head figures for the Bay Area’s next generation of artists. From the look of things, 2014 will be exactly the same plus more. So much, that’s managed to evolve him into a shimmering figure in pop music.

First was his highly successful “GDFR” feature with Flo Rida. Not only has the song that’s appeared on everything from Furious 7 to WWE Summerslam and gone platinum domestically. The single is the first single to hit the top-ten in nine countries. Then there’s the already explosive “Good Thing” with Nick Jonas. Already climbing the charts, the single places him in the eye of mainstream music audiences.

Speaking with DX, Sage talks the success of “GDFR” and “Good Thing” while explaining his artistic growth.

DX: Your appearance on “Going Down For Real” with Flo Rida, that was a pretty explosive track. It’s pretty much already called the song of the summer, how does that feel?

Sage The Gemini: Ah man it was great, working with Flo Rida was crazy. You come in expecting one thing and walk out getting another. Flo Rida is one of the most humble people and he’s done a lot of stuff so for us to make a song is just crazy and it expanded really really really fast. It was all over the country and went gold in a few different countries along with the two other songs I had in there so it’s just a blessing.

DX: What was it like working with Flo Rida, did he give you any advice on hit making considering his string of hits?
