Aimster server AbovePeer has added the 20 records companies the Recording Industry Association of America, the represented in the Washington, DC-based organization legal challenges to Redwood, CA-based Napster, in a pending lawsuit in U.S. Court now asking a jury to find that neither the Albany, N.Y.-based company’s file-sharing services violate U.S. copyright law.
An amended version of the lawsuit AbovePeer filed May 8 in Albany names Arista, Atlantic, BMG Music, Capitol, Elektra, Geffen, Interscope, Island, MCA, Motown, Polygram, Sire, Sony Music, and Universal Records as co-defendants along with now defunct A&M and LaFace.
The original AbovePeer lawsuit, filed April 30, sought a judge’s ruling that Aimster’s free file-sharing services did not aid and abet copyright infringement. Albany attorney George F. Carpinello
