Filipino hip hop artists Kiyo, Alisson Shore, and Awi Columna pay tribute to the late YouTube personality and musician Emman Nimedez (also known by his mononym, EMMAN) in the latter’s posthumous track, “Simula” (Beginning), which premiered yesterday, August 16.

“Simula” was co-written by all four, and is the last track written by EMMAN before his death in 2020. The track was produced by Alisson Shore, with additional vocals from Because.

The joint single was released exactly two years after Nimedez died due to complications from acute myeloid leukemia. In 2020, the musician released his only three singles, “Teka Lang” (Just Wait), “Kung Pwede Lang” (If Only), and “Uuwian” (Going Home).

The accompanying Titus Cee-directed visual for “Simula” shows the three hip hop artists taking turns on their verses, interspersed by shots of a man exploring the woods, riding the jeepney, where Nimedez’s friends are aboard, including fellow Pinoy YouTube personality CongTV.

Emman Nimedez shot to fame in 2017 after his parody of Korean dramas became popular on YouTube. Aside from doing parody videos, covers, and short films, he also made music, albeit shortly. One of his only four recorded singles, “Teka Lang” (Just Wait), was posthumously nominated for and ultimately won the Wish Contemporary R&B Song of the Year at the 6th Wish Music Awards in 2021

The single will be available digitally on August 20.
