Hong Kong-based rising singer and producer Gareth.T premieres the acoustic English version of his Cantonese hit “勁浪漫 超溫馨” which premiered last November.
Released on Valentine’s Day, “dinner in bed” is a revelatory ode to romantic love, rearranging the production of its Cantonese predecessor to its almost bare, skeletal form on guitar played by frequent collaborator Teddy Fan. The track’s lyricism also points towards a more sensual side of the singer, as he sings about the everyday intimacy in relationships—like having breakfast in bed with a partner—rather than grander acclamations of love.
In the off-beat visual for the video, he pays homage to the sensual yet awkward atmosphere of videos from the early 2000s like D’Angelo’s “How Does It Feel” and James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful” as it portrays him eating dinner by himself interspersed with the ironic shots of spending time in his lonesome.
