Canadian rapper bbno$’s “edamame” featuring Indonesian hip hop artist Rich Brian gets a new twist—with the original production by Diamond Pistols replaced by the arrangement for Smash Mouth’s “All Star.”
The Shrek-inspired video was made by YouTuber Kanskaart, best known for his song mashups and parodies. The Smash Mouth version of “edamame” was released on bbno$’s YouTube account on August 17.
The music video originally premiered on July 23, which shows two rappers clad in medieval armor—similar to Shrek’s titular character. The collaboration was initiated by the Canadian rapper on Twitter on July 9, asking Rich Brian if he “wanna make a song.” Five days later, bbno$ revealed that they ended up making the track, which will be included in bbno$’s upcoming album, out next month.
The Vancouver-based rapper bbno$ began posting music on SoundCloud in 2016 and gained an audience in China after a member of Chinese idol group TFBoys danced to his “Yoyo Tokyo” track. He is also best known for his collaborations with rapper Yung Gravy and the 2019 track, “Lalala.”
