No, this has nothing to do with U-N-I-T-Y, but the new Hip Hop generation has turned into a bunch of whiny, punk bitches…

I said the new Hip Hop generation has turned into a bunch of whiny, punk bitches (copyright: Mike Jones).

We’ve got a bunch of actors in the game these days (and the majority of them aren’t good at what they do). If you want a reference point, check last months feature“Stop Snitchin on Yourself”.

For all of the cats claiming to be killas, D-Boys and pimps, these same cats turn bitch as soon as somebody calls them out. Back in the day, declining to battle somebody wasn’t an option and constituted an automatic “L” in the record books. The only cat that gets a pass for doing this is Jay-Z (who would have, without a doubt ENDED Killa Cam’s career and put his own Def Jam artist, Juelz Santana in an awkward position).

The rest of these sorry ass “I’m not going to respond, but oh yeah, I’m the best rapper ever” cats get no love. Man up and battle… and leave the guns at home. As much as I despise what LL Cool J has become, I’ve never seen him walk away from a battle, I can respect that. (And y’all know he really didn’t have to square off against Canibus. And for the record, LL lost, sorry ladies.)

How are you going to be the self proclaimed champ and never defend the title?

iBootleg?

The topic of bootlegging is still an issue in Hip Hop and I say y’all bitches need to get over it. Bootlegging doesn’t hurt record sales, but SHITTY MUSIC does (the neighborhood hustle man was selling tapes and CD’s long before Napster or Lime Wire were a thought in anyone’s mind). About 85 % (and I’m being generous) of what drops today is trash and if CD’s weren’t so expensive I’d be using them as Frisbees on my lunch break.

The difference between then and now is that you one hit wonder artists can’t go platinum with one a hot single and 13 garbage tracks because the public can hear your entire album BEFORE they’ve been suckered into buying it (I know y’all remember the days when the only hot song on an album was the radio single). Artists could get away with being sub par because nobody knew they were sub par until it was too late. Long live file sharing.

Get over it… BITCHES.

The BUSINESS of music

Oh, I hope you didn’t think that I was going to leave you, the consumer out. Y’all are just as at fault for the sorry state of the game as these artists and executives are.

Hip Hop is a culture, an art form and a way of life for a lot of us.

The music business, however, is a BUSINESS (independent artists take note here)

Art and business are like oil and water.

Art is always changing, business only changes when the dollar begins to change hands. And while Hip Hop has more styles than the colors in the rainbow, the business side is programmed to give you more of what you already have, and more of what is proven to sell (hey, is it just me or do Joc, Jeezy and Dro all have something common? Hmmm.)

If y’all REALLY want a change, you support ART with your BUSINESS. And that means BUYING the stuff you like and not supporting the outlets that constantly push the stuff you don’t (Turn off the radio! Turn off that bullshit! Shout out to dead prez.)

Must be ya ass cause it ain’t your face

So there are also some folks at Spelman who would like us to believe that their protests have something to do with BET UnCut getting cancelled. And to that, I can offer nothing but a LOOOOOONG overdue: “Unstable Creature Please” (I’m not going to call y’all the B word, shout out to Omar Gooding).

BET has been under SERIOUS scrutiny for YEARS over the quality of its programming. If these kids can still see phat asses at 8 in the morning and meet Yung Joc in the trap cause “it’s goin down”, that should be more of a cause for concern than what comes on at 3 a.m. (hopefully some of those kids stayed up the extra hour to hear the Word after the show.)

To the ladies who REALLY believe a victory was won, NEWSFLASH: YOU LOSE, and even if you THINK you won, you still LOSE.

Getting a real 9-5 has put a lot of stuff in perspective. I actually get up and watch some of these videos to see what the kids are seeing. Trust me, if there’s more concern over a child watching a GROWN FOLKS show (which mind you, is rated TV MA) than kids watching shaking asses while they get dressed for school, a priority check is in order.

I’ve said it time and time again. I EXPECT kids to be up at seven, eight in the morning. If a kid is watching TV in YOUR house at 3 a.m., the problem lies with YOU, not the child.

And speaking of the kids…

Ain’t a damn thing wrong with most of them. They just need some guidance. Sorry ass guidance will (nine times out of ten) produce a sorry ass child.

Food for thought: If they spent a tenth of the time studying that they did memorizing dance moves and rap songs, we’d have a nation of scholars.

And I’m out.
