Its about that time again, what time is that you ask? Time to piss and moan, observe and dissect, and talk some shit. As per usual.

Before we get to that, I need to address some HHDX business. For those who are not aware, Andreas Hale has taken over as editor-in-chief of HipHopDx.com. I, for one, could not be happier. Not just because he was the very man I recommended to Tommy, but because he is an intelligent, insightful, and knowledgeable young journalist. I’ve been a part of this site for some six years now, my contributions on the surface have varied according to the traffic in my life, but my dedication and influence behind the scenes has never varied. I have endured a lot of high points and low points, often due to past editors and questionable content and practices. I can’t describe the piece of mind I have with Dre running the show, knowing that the site is in the hands of a man who represents every that is right with this culture. Show us the way my man…

On with the show…

So Cam’ron gets his ass shot up while rolling through DC in his Lamborghini. Considering that none of the shots were life threatening and I won’t sound like too much of an asshole…GOOD. Seriously, I hope they shot some fucking sense into him. I’m actually really surprised that this type of shit doesn’t happen more often to rappers. They spend line after line, verse after verse, song after song doing little more than bragging about their material riches. You think folks who don’t have that kinda dough don’t feel like its being thrown in their face? Maybe next time he thinks about writing a rhyme about his fleet of cars he will consider the green-eyed cats with the burners running up on his Italian automobile. But of course, he will not…

On the other side of the coin, it is sad to see that the crab in the barrel symptom is alive and well…

In other rappers that piss me off news, 50 Cent needs to go. Or needs his uncontrollable ego put in check. I’m not one of those G-Unit haters, I actually like quite a bit of the music they make. Just check any of the reviews I’ve done for them. If it wasn’t bad enough that 50 had the gall to try and take credit for Kanye’s success, he is now threatening Dr. Dre if Dre chooses to work with Game. On the radio, just outright said it, he will have beef with Dre if he works with Game on his new album. What a fucking ingrate. Yes 50 had a nice buzz going before signing with Shady/Aftermath, but without Dre he was selling 2 million at most. Without In Da Club he was not coming anywhere near the 8 million or whatever Get Rich or Die Tryin’ has sold. When you are ready to beef with the man who made your career because he is working with another one of HIS artists that you don’t like, it is time for someone to put you in your place. Have some fucking respect for someone other than yourself. I really think that it is only a matter a time before he turns everyone against him, from Dr. Dre and Eminem to even his G-Unit cronies. Someone bring this man back to reality…

So it looks like we may be finally seeing a return to form from the Wu. I’m not even hinting at 93 to 96 type shit, but some ill shit seems to be bubbling. Dreddy Kruger’s recent indy-meets-Wu album may not feature much of the actual Clan, but the concept of the album is enough to turn some heads. Plus you’ve got Muggs hooking up with GZA to make some of most vintage Wu music since the crew’s golden years. Rae’s sequel to his seminal debut looks to be shaping up into something at least semi-worthy of sharing a title with one of the greatest albums ever. And of course, the shining star, the man who can do no wrong…Ghostface Kiiiillllllaaaaaahhhh (word to ODB). Fish Scale is bound to be another banger if the ridiculous Pete Rock laced single (Be Easy), is any indication…

Lastly, the day grows near that Jay-Z will unleash his wrath on those still taking shots at the throne (yes he is still occupying it in retirement). I’m not gonna waste my time speculating as to who may get it, but I’m certainly hoping for some folks in particular. Like say, Cam’ron – who is some ten years removed from being a decent emcee – who is welcoming a potential call out from a man with at least 12.8 million times the talent. Not only that, but he is making claims of terminating careers…like Nas? Huh? What? Most people don’t even know that happened, even fewer could quote one good line from it…

I’m out like the rappers on Hov’s shit list…
